Patch, lovingly referred to as Mr fluffy tail, like so many fosters, he has had a very rough start to life.
Patch is a great guy, he really is. He's a lot like us ......we have strong points and weak points. We like some things and dislike others. Certain things stress us out but there are also other things that bring us joy and peace. Patch is the same way! He's just looking for a loving, patient person who understands that we're not all perfect and is willing to accept this handsome, intelligent dog as he is.
Patch was collected by animal control after being hit by a car. Their vet diagnosed bruising but nothing broken. Bullet/pellets were located on x-ray but not recently and not causing issues. His owner did not claim him from animal control.
Physically he has healed from those early injuries. But there is still an as yet undiagnosed aspect. You see he has an odd gate and does not sit, ever. Why? It is uncomfortable. He has seen 3 more vets and more x-rays, but nothing is immediately obvious. He is on a low dose, daily regimen of gabapentin as a result. He will need medication and lab work to monitor kidney function regularly.
This does not slow him down, he is first man at the gate for intruders with a very strong bark. But lets them in when instructed to and will even allow a pet. He has the gentlest way of taking treats.
Patch is not a "sit - stay" kind of dog. He has been using his own resources to survive. He will partner with a person he trusts and does not fear.
He has strong opinions and does not like change, which causes stress & does not handle stress well. Do not take or move his things without asking-telling him first. Nor does he like raised voices. He responds to dulcet tones, and clear boundaries.
Regarding children, little ones make him nervous but if is tucked safely inside his kennel he enjoys watching the grandkids play within the safety of his kennel. He would be okay in a home who has children visiting now and then but if he had to interact with kiddos on a daily basis it would be too much for him.
He has not been evaluated with cats or other animals.
He does not like male dogs. He has interacted with a few and is not friendly. He will enjoy the company of a female that is calm and quiet, but ready to work with him against the danger. He does not walk well on a leash, a property with enough space to run is for him.
Patch does have fears that have been worked on with very positive reinforcement / reward method and will require future consistency.
Patch does not travel well, can get car sick. He's going to need a fairly local adoption as a long distance transport would be too stressful for him. He doesn't like trips to the vet but he does amazingly well with mobile vets who make house calls.
Patch's perfect home will have a securely fenced yard for him to run and play in. He would do well either as an only dog or paired with an easy going, non-dominant female dog who is close to his age and is medium to large sized.
Secure fencing with minimum height of 4 feet is required on all adoptions.
Most Anatolians are not well suited to apartment living. FOR MORE INFORMATION EMAIL US ASDRESCUE@GMAIL.COM FOR INFO ON FOSTERING AND FOSTER TO ADOPT CLICK HERE FOR INFO ON ADOPTION CLICK HERE TO FILL OUT OUR ONLINE APPLICATION CLICK HERE
