KENTUCKY,LEXINGTON; **IN SHELTER** "JOSIE" needs a caretaker or foster!
Won't you consider helping her get a new start?
Please Note: This animal is listed as a courtesy to another organization. Please be sure to contact the foster/caretaker for more information about her.
Josie lived the first 2 years of her life on a chain. Her owner's sister convinced him to find her a new home and she went to live with a family that had 3 other dogs where she was great- she was house trained, loved to go for walks and did well with the other dogs but her previous life had taught her some bad habits. Because she was underfed and didn't receive much positive attention she still had problems with guarding her food/treats and toys. She was so afraid that she wouldn't get more food or get to have her toy back that she would get snappy with the other dogs that tried to take them or even just tried to play with her.
Josie is a wonderful dog with so much potential if someone could just give her the opportunity, be patient and constant and train her away from her guarding behaviors.
Josie has been at the shelter since October 4, 2016 where she has received little interest due to her size and need for a specific, experienced home. Josie has began to shut down at the shelter.
She no longer greets most people at the front of her kennel. Her eating habits have changed and she lays around mostly. She is fully vetted and her adoption fee is sponsored to an approved home or rescue.
We would love to find this girl a permanent home ASAP as we feel her quality of life is beginning to suffer.
