Kylie

February 27, 2007

Kylie probably grew up on his own without a family to care about him.  He was discovered living in the woods behind a shelter in Alabama.  A rescuer began feeding him but was not able to catch him.  One day, some of the shelter workers found him with his leg stuck in the fork of a tree and that was how Kylie came into the care of rescue.

He went to a foster home with Kristy.  Kristy taught him that people were not all bad and this wild, crazy dog began to settle down and trust people.  Kylie was a very sweet and loving dog, he loved to run and play with the other dogs and enjoyed his special time with Kristy and her family.

In November of 2006 we thought Kylie had found his "forever" home with a family in Maryland, but unfortunately, the new mom did not watch Kylie closely enough.  She left him outside by himself the first night he arrived and Kylie jumped the fence.  Thus began the quest to find and catch Kylie (again).

A massive "dog hunt" began with local rescuers and they soon discovered that Kylie was living in a 200 acre cemetery.

These dedicated rescuers left food out for Kylie every day, they used tracking dogs to try to find him.  Kristy, his foster mom, drove to Maryland to try to catch him.  Although Kylie returned to the feeding station every day, no one was able to get close enough to catch him.   This went on for 3 months.

Unfortunately, Kylie ventured too far out of the cemetery and was hit and killed by a car.  We are all very sad and mourn the loss of such a sweet dog that had the odds stacked against him for most of his life. A heartfelt thanks go out to all of the rescuers in Pikeville MD area that tried so hard to catch Kylie so he could go back home to Alabama.
